There are some signs you may notice in your body that come as a result of the enlargement of the prostate, and once these signs or symptoms are observed on a daily basis, you should immediately go for a prostate exam to know the magnitude of it and also receive proper medical treatment.

According to WebMD, abnormal growth of the cells in the glands of the prostate results in an increase in its size, giving rise to visible signs or symptoms. It's a medical condition known as prostatic hyperplasia. However, as men advance in age, this condition becomes more prominent due to an increase in the size of the urethra, a tube stationed beneath the bladder through which urine flows out of the male private organ. The enlarged tube causes a restriction in the easy flow of urine, which can cause bacteria to build up in it, and when it's not given immediate and proper medical treatment, it can result in other medical conditions such as kidney, bladder, and urinary tract problems. If you notice any of the following five signs in your body, quickly go for a prostate exam.

1. When you notice that you have the inner urge to urinate frequently during the normal period, it could be a sign of prostate enlargement. However, if you find yourself going to pee on more than eight occasions, you should immediately go for a prostate exam. When the bladder becomes too active as a result of the widening of the prostate gland, which compresses it and makes it unable to hold enough urine, the bladder becomes full from time to time and tends to discharge its content, hence the urge to pee often.

2. When you notice that each time you pee, it comes with pain and discomfort, it's also a sign that you should go for a prostate exam because there is too much pressure on the urinary tract and the male organ is responsible for it. Infection that arises from an enlarged prostate due to urine retention in the bladder for a long time can also result in painful discharge when trying to urinate.

3. Another sign you may notice is the presence of blood discharge in your urine when you pee. Once you see blood in your urine, you should go for a prostate exam. It should, however, be noted that some urine may contain blood, which can only be seen when observed under a microscope. This is known as haematuria in medical terminology.

4. As discussed earlier, when urine is held in the bladder for a longer time than necessary, it could be a sign of an enlarged prostate. Urine retention can be delayed for some days while there are other conditions that warrant only the use of a specially made device called a catheter, which is inserted into the bladder to drain out the trapped urine.

5. When you notice that you can't control your urine flow, in other words, urine flowing uncontrollably out of your male organ is a sign that you need to go for an urgent prostate exam. This is usually due to the loss of control over the urinary sphincter.
